Invention Disclosures

Invention Disclosures are made to the Office of Technology Transfer ("OTT") as the first step towards a possible patent application or other appropriate form of intellectual property protection. It is important that disclosure be made as early and as completely and accurately as possible (although it may be amended at any time later); the benefits are stronger patent protection and lower legal costs. It may be useful for you to discuss your ideas with OTT and to conduct patent and literature searches before deciding whether to file an Invention Disclosure.

Warning: You should consult OTT before submitting any invention-related manuscripts for publication, making oral presentations, or disclosing the invention to companies (or other third parties); any disclosure may seriously jeopardize patentability if not handled properly.

You may download the Invention Disclosure Form and Guidelines in either Microsoft Word format or in Acrobat pdf format. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, click here to download a free copy.
